Ottoman Turkish name[edit]

The "Ottoman Turkish name" given in the beginning of the article is almost certainly Arabic, not Turkish.--Doron (talk) 08:35, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

This article practically overlaps the Syria Vilayet article (and definition) during the Ottoman era). Please vote.Greyshark09 (talk) 12:08, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose the merger. Ottoman Syria refers not only to Syria Vilayet, but also to other Vilayets (e.g. Aleppo Vilayet, Beirut Vilayet) and to previous administrative units (Eyalet) as well (Tripoli, Rakka, Acre, Damascus, Aleppo). • Oppose mostly per Amr. Ottoman Syria is an unofficial and broad term that includes several different vilayets, mutasarrifates and eyalets from different periods of Ottoman rule. This article certainly needs a lot of work though. --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:30, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose if you look at the maps, modern Syria was mostly part of the Aleppo Vilayet.--Ultimate Destiny (talk) 12:30, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Raqqa[edit]

I have removed this text "In 1586, the Eyalet of Raqqa was established in eastern Syria. It lasted until the Egyptian invasion in 1831 and included Eyalet of Raqqa ([] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: no text (help) إيالة الرقة), Sanjak of Urfa, Sanjak of Marash, Sanjak of Dayr Rahba, Sanjak of Khabour, Sanjak of Jamasa and Sanjak of Bani Rabi'a.".

This area is in Al-Jazira, Mesopotamia, ie north of the Euphrates.

The svg map in the box is wrong.

Vilayet of Damascus[edit]

Under the section 1872-1918 there is an entry 'Damascus Vilayet'. There never was such a unit. There was a Damascus Eyalet which was renamed to 'Syria Vilayet' in 1867. I propose that the 1872-1918 name 'Damascus Vilayet' be changed accordingly to 'Syria Vilayet'@Oncenawhile:. Please excuse tardy responses since I am without reliable internet access. Merge[edit]

Propose to merge Timelines of Ottoman Syria history -> Ottoman Syria, as both articles are largely overlapping, while Ottoman Syria doesnb't have a history/timeline section. In terms of size, Ottoman Syria is 14kb and Timelines of Ottoman Syria history is 30kb - clearly not warranting split on basis of size.GreyShark (dibra) 06:04, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
