Tschaikovsky vs. Tchaikovsky[edit]

How should the name of the composer of the music for “Serenade” be spelled? Most Westerners now spell it Tchaikovsky, but City Ballet took up, during Balanchine’s lifetime, the spelling Tschaikovsky. Why? Because that’s how the composer spelled it when he was in New York in 1891. (My thanks to the reader who sent me a copy of his Carnegie Hall autograph from the Pierpont Morgan Library.)

Unfortunately, the NY Times doesn't get to dictate to Wikipedia how it spells the names of composers.
Apart from that, it makes no sense to say that Jewels uses the music of Tschaikovsky, but Anna Karenina uses the music of Tchaikovsky, as if these were different people. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 20:59, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Companies on which Jewels has been set[edit]

It would be great to include in the article a list of ballet companies on which Jewels or any of the three separate ballets has been set, and by whom, and whether the ballet is an active part of their repertory. Is this information available in any citable sources? (sdsds - talk) 18:47, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

to do[edit]

Companies which have performed Jewels[edit]

Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds have been staged by Karin von Aroldingen, Sara Leland, Elyse Borne, Sean Lavery, Patricia Neary, Mimi Paul, Violette Verdy, Patricia McBride and Suzanne Farrell, among others.
