The men's 200 metre butterfly competition of the swimming events at the 1983 Pan American Games took place on 21 August.[1] The last Pan American Games champion was Craig Beardsley of the United States.[2][3][4][5][6][7]

This race consisted of four lengths of the pool, all lengths being in butterfly stroke.[8]
