Talk:Zuyd University of Applied Sciences

Although the international name is Zuyd University, in the netherlands the legalstatus of a Hogeschool (Univesity of Professonal Education) differs from that of a University, there for my question is, should this be in the Dutch University Category? Mach10 21:12, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So if it's not a University, why is it called one on this page? It's kind of misleading. I think 'College' is a much better analogy as this is generally the institution attended to gain a 'professional' degree in, for example, Canada and the US (although not in the UK, as professional degrees don't exist there). 1) On to the English version of the website, they call themselves University (as do all Hogescholen)

2) Since the adoption from the BaMa system the distinction between a Dutch Universitiet and Hogeschool is fading, in for instance the UK and the US, subject which can only be taken at a Dutch Hogeschool are thought at Universities (for instance Nursing)

3) Most importantly: The name “University of Professional Education” is the legal Englisch name of Dutch Hogescholen (see for instance http://www.minocw.nl/documenten/brief2k-2004-doc-11778.pdf page 2 ‘Naamgeving van instellingen’) Mach10 (talk) 05:13, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I attended Zuyd on exchange, officially at least in the immigration office, they are Zuyd University. My application said Hogeschool Zuyd and it caused tons of problems. I vote for the University usage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bsd685 (talk • contribs) 16:27, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
