Tōyako, Hokkaidō → Tōyako —

Agreed. That guideline could possibly be modified in order to allow the shorter names, but that's a conversation to have at Wikipedia Talk:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)

Support as nominator I hadn't looked at the policy before, and ideally I would extend the debate there, but I don't see the point in holding the long form as the article title when the common name of the place is available and unambiguous. YeshuaDavid • Talk • 11:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)I think that the main issue with Japanese names comes from the fact that their all created through a Romanization method that isn't devoid of controversy itself. My main concern therefore, is that this seemingly rather innocuous request might be opening a larger can of "whoop ass" on all of us ("us" being those of us who use and participate in the movereq process, and those members of the Japan WikiProject(s)).

I definitely do not support moving to Tōyako. There is clear precedent for the current naming scheme for Japanese municipality articles throughout Wikipedia. Tōyako is not nearly as well known as Tokyo, Kyoto, etc. and should not be an exception. -Amake (talk) 11:46, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
