Surname[edit]

The family name Fromme is of German origin, still found in a number exceeding 1040 phone book entries in Germany which is above average, the name and families being deeptly rooted in Westphalia. According to an article I read which in turn cited a genealogical website, Lynette Fromme is distantly related to General Erik Fromme, the German General who was the commander of the German "Reserve Army" in 1944 at the time of the plot against Hitler, and who was subsequently arrested and executed. Fromme's actual knowledge of the plot is unclear, but he arrested Claus von Stauffenberg and the other chief conspirators at the Werhmacht HQ building and after a brief summary court martial, had them shot around midnight on July 20. This implicated him, rightly or wrongly, since the Gestapo was thus unable to interrogate the coup leaders and obtain further information and names. Fromme is depicted in the Tom Cruise "Valkyrie" film. I do not recall the exact relationship, but it was remote-- 3rd cousin removed twice or thrice, etc. Lynette Fromme's paternal ancestors must have immigrated to the States only in the late 19th Century for that to work out. Projected release date[edit]

The article and source lists a projected release date of 08/16/09 – however she is serving a life sentence. Has her sentence been commuted or is this an error on the source website? Sottolacqua (talk) 15:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, no, and I tried to present this in the article, but someone kept undoing it [1]. If she chooses to attend her parole hearing, which she has recently refused to do, and she is granted parole, then her release date would be in August. I grew tired of fighting it. Yes, she is serving a life sentence but she was sentenced BEFORE the federal government abolished parole for life sentences. She still must attend the parole hearing and be granted parole before she would be released. If she doesn't attend, which she has refused to do in recent years, the projected release date will come and go and she will remain in prison. Wildhartlivie is correct. The Federal BOP Inmate Locator has shown a series of projected release dates over the years. The current projected release date indicates when Fromme is next permitted to apply for parole. If that date passes without her attending her parole hearing, a new parole hearing date is set and a new projected release date posted. What I can't understand for the life of me is why you can't comprehend the possibility that Fromme can be released this month. Nothing suggests she needs a parole hearing this time. No one has said, at any time, that there is no possibility of her being released in August. The point is that she has to attend the hearing. Meanwhile, what you removed from the article does not contradict that she could be released. It is entirely appropriate to note that she has refused to attend hearings and thus had not been released to date. You also removed the formatting to the reference that tells where it came from and what makes it a referenced note which some could see as vandalism. Again, no one is disputing the possibility of release and thus your removal of the content changes nothing except to note she has refused to attend the hearings. Loaded or not?[edit]

I've read before that the weapon she pointed at Ford was not loaded. This article states: "The pistol's magazine was loaded with four rounds, but none were in the firing chamber." I'm not sure I know enough about pistols to understand what it means to have a round in the magazine but not in the firing chamber. Hopefully someoen can add some clarifying details to this section of the article. There can only be one round in the chamber at a time, right? If the gun was a semi-automatic (clip-fed) she would have to manually pullback the slide to load the chamber. If it was a double-action revolver, she could simply have pulled the trigger repeatedly to advance to the 1st bullet and fire. If it was a single-action revolver, she would have had to manually cock the trigger and pull, repeating the sequence until the gun advanced to the 1st round and could then fire. 216.153.214.89 (talk) 06:38, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oddly, that crummy explanation has stood for 4 years. The gun, a Colt Model 1911, requires a brisk, energetic, two-handed racking of the slide to get a round into battery when there is none in the chamber. If one were really intending to use the gun, there are more practical "conditions" for it to be in that would make firing it vastly simpler and quicker. If a 1911 in the "condition" that Fromme was carrying it were placed in the hands of a person unfamiliar with the gun, they would find it a baffling instrument that did not seem to be capable of firing bullets. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.3.249 (talk) 03:25, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why the nickname?[edit]

That's a plain dumb response. If it's worth putting in the article it's worth knowing why she got such a nickname! Otherwise just take the mention out. I too was interested in knowing why she was called "Squeaky" but the reason why is conspicuous by its absence. That is not good enough such a strange nickname for a mass murderer!! According to Manson Family member Paul Watkins, notorious Mansonite Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme got her nickname because of the sound she made when Spahn ran his hand up her thigh. In 1979, Fromme was transferred out of Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin in Dublin, California, for attacking a fellow inmate, Julienne Bušić, with the claw-end of a hammer. On December 23, 1987, she escaped from the Federal Prison Camp, Alderson in Alderson, West Virginia, attempting to meet Manson, who she had heard had testicular cancer. She was captured again two days later and incarcerated at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas.[3]

I believe this should read, "On December 23, 1987, she escaped from the Federal Prison Camp, Alderson in Alderson, West Virginia, attempting to meet Manson, whom she had heard had testicular cancer." Typo visible in Wikipedia app on iOS but not in web version[edit]

If you view this entry in the Wikipedia app (on iOS, at least), it has the following text immediately below the page title: "Charles Mason [sic] follower".
