Confusing and pointless word with vague at best definitions[edit]

The word "widget" is a grotesque and incorrect word when discussing software, computers, or UIs (where it is mostly used). It's usage should be phased out with more up to date terminology that gives clear meaning to the context at hand such as "component", "control", "input", "device", "thing". Instead of deliberately obtuse and confusing sentences such as "I asked the software team to update the customer widgets" (which means absolutely nothing) use sentences such as "I asked the software team to update the customer list component". Therefore, this page can be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.237.204.186 (talk) 18:58, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

the definition of widgets is not layman enough. you need to explain with good example or two in layman terms.

Merge Software widget and Widget engine[edit]

The focus of both articles is basically the same: they explain the concept of a applet/widget application, and then provide a classification of the various types. I think that's redundant and confusing to readers without a previous knowledge of the particulars. I suggest creating a single article adding the information from both. I think it's a good idea to review the overall list of widget pages on the site, but I'm not sure Software Widgets and Web Widgets belong in the same palace. For instance, Web Widgets will require extensive discussion of SEO and SEO Backlink implications, which will be completely irrrelevant to software widgets in general (e.g., Desktop Widgets) and will tend to bloat the overall article. Software is Web and Desktop[edit]

The fact of the matter is that web is software. Just because it is used on the internet rather then on the desktop does not take away from the fact that is is still software. And as for SEO, that is a different subject entirely. With the new convergence of web powered desktop widgets, the web is becoming less and less separate from the desktop. And if you think about them as separate they will draw away from their ability to be modular. A widget on the web and on the desktop is a data driven piece of software that displays what it was designed to display. Internet or Desktop makes little difference.
