I dont think there is a specific regulation that all references must be English[edit]

Please leave the stuff added in the Personal Life section. The reference provided was good. THere are videos all over youtube of Slaven Bilic interviews stating he is a big English fan after the Wembley game. The article I provided states he has an 11 year old son named Leo. If anyone is really desperate to read the article and cannot understand Croatian, then its a shame. Wikipedia does not have to cater for the each individual needs of every hypothetical user. We may as well make every article in plain and easy to read words, and have audio versions of them to make sure. That would be stupid, as it would be calling a source unreliable because it is in the native language of the person's wikipedia page himself. A lot of top grade articles have foreign language references, translated or not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Domiy (talkcontribs) 11:41, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for living people must contain data which is verifiable see wp:blp. The only people that can verify your entry are, presumably, Croatian. This is English wiki - please provide a citation which can be verified by all (particularly for living people)--Egghead06 (talk) 11:57, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And please read WP:NONENG --Egghead06 (talk) 12:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't that rule. There are many Croats who understand english. We can verify, if we understand both languages, don't you think? I read WP:NONENG, and non-english sources are ok. Not even translation is always needed. So have some faith in us, if we are Croats, that doesn't mean we cannot be trusted, right? You just correct our mistakes (grammar and such). But verifying something shouldn't be a problem.Zekoslavac (talk) 04:20, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated[edit]

As of July 15th, this article is not only outdated but even plain wrong in some important aspects, such as estating that he will lead his team to the 2010 WC finals, which he didn't (couldn't). Some Croatian fans with enough knowledge should amend it.

Now tagged as such. GregorB (talk) 14:45, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth is Croatia[edit]

Place of birth is Croatia. Split is and was second largest croatian city. At that time (1968) Croatia was part of Yugoslavia, but as other Yugoslav countries, had no autonomy. Small autonomy was given by constitution in 1974 to all republics. Croatia was occupied in 1945 (some still call it liberation, but it was in fact communist occupation, just like in all of "eastern block"), and was liberated in war in 90's with fall of communism. When we are asked to fill place of birth field in official documents, we write Croatia, not SFR Yugoslavia. Just like Austrians born during WW2, they where born in Austria, not Third Reich, right? So that's why I changed his place of birth. Please keep it that way. And if someone is interested in Croatia at the time of Bilić's birth, he can check that on page about Croatia.Zekoslavac (talk) 04:09, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The country at the time of Bilić's birth is relevant, see WP:Proper names (last paragraph). As you say, in 1968, Croatia was part of Yugoslavia and had no autonomy, so the country of his birth was Yugoslavia. If Bilić would die today in Split, then his place of death would be correctly listed as Split, Croatia. People born in today's Austria during WW2 would also be correctly born in the Third Reich, see Walter Skocik, or, if it was during WW1, born in Austria-Hungary, see for example Georg Braun (footballer). This applies also to Germans, Horst Eckel was born in the German Reich, not in Germany (and after WW2 and before 1990, people were born in West or East Germany, but not in Germany). --Jaellee (talk) 10:39, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So I checked the country at the time of Bilić's birth. I realised I wasn't clear enough. "Autonomy" as right to separate from Yugoslavia was given by Constitution in 1974. In communist countries, in reality there wasn't much autonomy. But, if we want precision, there was at least on the paper. Yugoslavia was a federation. So I was wrong to compare Yugoslavia with Third Reich. More appropriate would be to compare it with EU or USA, at least regarding this matter. So it is correct that Bilić's country of birth was Yugoslavia, but it is also correct that it was Croatia, to be precise, Socialist Republic of Croatia, member of Yugoslavia Federation. So maybe it would be best to put both? i.e. Split, SR Croatia, SFR Yugoslavia.Zekoslavac (talk) 19:48, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hasnt managed West Ham yet[edit]

Terry Westley was the manager for the recent Europa League game. So why should Bilic get the credit?[1]

The Europa League is run by UEFA. They, after the first two games, have Bilic as having been coach for two games and they should know, they run the competition.--Egghead06 (talk) 04:46, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Stats are completely and utterly meaningless when actual journalistic reporting states Westley was the manager for the game(/s). RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 19:06, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We disagree. Bilic is West Hams manager and has been since June. If he chooses not to sit on the touch line he is still West Hams manager. Both Soccerbase which is widely used within Wikipedia as a reliable reference and UEFA concur. Suggest we need a wider audience to discuss this?--Egghead06 (talk) 20:28, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Major LOL at Slaven Bilic, Terry Westley, the Andorran fella, The Guardian, BBC, Independent, Sky Sports not being reliable references for Westley being manager for the tie/s. But yeah, Soccerbase trumps all that. It's not as if Soccerbase has ever been wrong. RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 20:55, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And UEFA ? Are they "major Lol" too?--Egghead06 (talk) 21:25, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think Egghead06's suggestion of a wider audience is a very good idea. Chillum 21:10, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'll just copy and paste what I've already said - Stats are completely and utterly meaningless when actual journalistic reporting states Westley was the manager for the game(/s). RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 00:43, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Westley has never been an official manager of West Ham. The BBC reports here that "new manager Slaven Bilic, who was in the stands but not in charge." So not on the touchline for the night but still West Ham manager. Seeing as we are discussing an entry for MANAGERIAL statistics the game goes down as one under Bilic's managership. If you want an entry for "in-charge on the night" statistics, the game belongs in such an entry for Westley. There have been numerous incidents when managers did not take charge [1], [2], but the games still count as under their managership and even in Westley's own words Bilic played a significant part in the games - just not on the bench!--Egghead06 (talk) 04:53, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
but not in charge. but not in charge. but not in charge. but not in charge. but not in charge. i.e. literally what being a manager is - in charge! RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 08:45, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
West Ham have one manager - Bilic. If you put the kit man in charge for the day it does not make him the manager. It makes him in charge for the day.--Egghead06 (talk) 10:27, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You don't appear to understand what the phrase "in charge" means, and that is just darling. RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 10:49, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It means in-charge. It does not mean that you are The Manager. Guess we need to go to other editors at WP:FOOTY on this--Egghead06 (talk) 11:38, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"In charge, it means in charge". Well I never! RealDealBillMcNeal (talk) 12:22, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As above (conveniently ignored) if you put the kit man in charge it does not make him the manager and we are taking about Managerial Statistics here.--Egghead06 (talk) 05:03, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
First FIVE games (not three!)--Egghead06 (talk) 05:08, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
