radix or bin sort?[edit]
Sorting least significant column first, then next, ... is a radix sort. Bin sorting is sorting the most significant column first, then the next most significant for each bin (you have to keep the bins separate), then .... Change name[edit]
I'm inclined to rename this article IBM punched card sorters because it really covers all of them. Any objections?--agr (talk) 00:42, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Pacific Northwest Bell[edit]
A new 084 sorter was installed at Pacific Northwest Bell in Seattle on May 1, 1963, so I suspect that 1963 may have been the year that the 084 was introduced. Sorting punched cards that represented toll calls was a large project each day. The 084 greatly helped the process. GQuickstad (talk) 17:16, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
