Award amount[edit]

Initially, the Presidential Award increased the amount of grant money received by the recipient. However, during George W. Bush's tenure as president, this feature was phased out and no longer exists; the award is now simply an honor bestowed upon the recipients.

This is not true. My son has currently received this award and said he received his money (goes to research) however, I did not asked the amount. I believe it is $100,000 a year for 5 years although I am not positive. The ceremony and reception will be Dec 19 at the White House.

You seem to be confused. Your son probably got a CAREER award from NSF or something equivalent from a participating agency. This carries the amount you say, typically. PECASE awards are selected among top CAREER awards. The initial discussion focuses on an increase beyond the original CAREER award.

It's $200k/yr, over 5 years -- at least for those nominated by DoD and NSF. I don't know about other agencies.

How is the acronym PECASE pronounced? I have heard everything from "pea case" to Picasso. ----Jon

2011 Awardees[edit]
