Untitled[edit]

This article might be better titled List of astronomical societies. I will move it if there are no objections... --Etacar11 15:42, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've sectioned off the list. You can still split it off into a seperate article if you like. —Joe Llywelyn Griffith Blakesley talk contrib 17:52, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any order to these examples, I would think that alphabetical order would be a good. Maybe by continent or region. But, I don't like since some are more regional than others by design so it would make sorting difficult. IanCarmack (talk) 22:29, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it started out alphabetical but it has degenerated. Feel free to tidy it up... --Etacar11 02:29, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Link farm[edit]

This page is currently a real mess. It is not a disambiguation page at all, it is a LINKFARM. It needs to be cleaned up to just internal links and probably moved to "List of astronomical societies" to make it in some form encyclopedic. 70.211.8.4 (talk) 20:15, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The above comment is five years old, and I don't see the problems it raises any more - can we close this one off as Done? --Gronk Oz (talk) 01:35, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What References?[edit]

This article is currently tagged with Refimprove, but it is not obvious what sort of references would improve it.

Wikipedia:Lists_(stand-alone_lists)#Citing_sources says that "it is generally expected that obviously appropriate material, such as the inclusion of Apple in the List of fruits, will not be supported by any type of reference." That appears to cover the entries in this article - unless somebody can suggest what sort of references are suitable, I propose removing this tag. Comments? --Gronk Oz (talk) 01:56, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done - More than a year has passed without any objection, so I have removed that tag. This is in line with MOS:LIST: "people reading or editing the list can check an item's reference to see that the information comes from a reliable source", so they are not also needed in the list itself. --Gronk Oz (talk) 04:32, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia lists and notability[edit]

Wikipedia is not a directory. A list on Wikipedia is intended to be an aid to navigating Wikipedia and must specify its inclusion criteria. The inclusion criteria for this list has always been notability. Changing the list criteria requires discussion. Please limit inclusion on this list to societies which have a Wikipedia article. If a notable society does not have a Wikipedia article, then write the article first. In any case, all entries must either have a Wikipedia article or a citation which shows that the society is notable by Wikipedia standards. Trying to make a list exhaustive subverts the entire purpose of the list, which is to help the user navigate to existing Wikipedia articles. Thank you.
