Latins[edit]

While I have no doubt at all that the byzantines celebrate with joy each and every imagined evil deed ever done by any Latin anywhere in the world, I have cause to question the factuality of the statement found in the article. If the year is to be believed, 1283, then I must call into question the name of the byzantine emperor, who would have died the year before. By the way, the byzantine emperor who they claim did this was a GREEK not a Latin, so I can hardly see how it was a "latin" army that attacked anyway. If the name of the emperor is to be believed, who was excommunicated by the pope if I am not mistaken, then the army being Latin is not to be believed. Canon law also forbids under anthema attacks on clerics anyway. If this is indeed the emperor, then the year must be a different year.

Also, looking over historical notes of the emperor in question and the year in question, I find historical record, not even among the "orthodox".

It is likely that this event never happened at all and was made up by later generations to sow hate for "latins". There are in fact numerous paintings of execusions precided over by the Pope on Mount Athos that all historians and even orthodox clerics admit never happened. Just because the clerics on the site venerate these acts of violence does not mean that it should be included in an encyclopedia unless it really happened.

Now it may have happened, I can not say for sure, and if it did, then revision and clean up is definately required for this article. Otherwise, get rid of this obviously RACIST bit of hate speech against Latins. --60.36.194.30 (talk) 11:57, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
