Title[edit]

A better title might be John F. Allen (physicist) as there are several John Allens who are physicists. Jaraalbe 19:13, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Recapitulation"[edit]

In 1997/98 I had the pleasure to be one of his students, Quantum Field Theory IIRC, he seemed to have a fixation on the word "recapitulation". His appearance was that of a schoolchild drawing god, indeed amongst the undergraduates at the time he was known as "god". It wasn't until preparing a talk on modelling the early universe using superfluids that I came across his work and still a little while later that I learnt that this was the great man ... I gather that the Physics and Astronomy building on the North Haugh at St.Andrews Uni now bears his name. Pbhj (talk) 03:02, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion[edit]

I tried to update the page with biographical details from the german wikipedia page about John Allen, as well as publically available sources (as indicated in the references), yet my changes were reverted by User:CLCStudent. I thought that the edited page provide much more biographical details with references, is there any issue with the edits? Pwstauk (talk) 17:28, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

They look fine to me. I removed the mention of his colleague's Nobel though since at first glance it looked like Allen had gotten a Nobel. – Thjarkur (talk) 17:53, 21 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
