Las Guardas in Spanish or As Guardas in Portuguese?[edit]

Shouldn't there be a source quoted to justify why a Portuguese explorer, João Faras, would call the constellation with a name in Spanish, "las Guardas", instead of his native Portuguese language, "as Guardas"? From what I could find, they are really called "as guardas do cruzeiro" in Portuguese (which also happens to be my own mother tongue). I understand the article should at least mention this incongruence, so to make clear it is not a mistake (if that's the case).--Pedro Aguiar (talk) 23:26, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Given that there is practically no information on this character, despite years of search by historians, don't hold out much hope for explanations. All we have is this letter. And it is simply what he wrote - "Las guardas", "La bolsa", "El polo antartyco". As you can see from the text of the rest of his letter, he uses words with Spanish-style spellings ("la", "el" and "las" & more) pretty frequently. This has led to speculations about his nationality, but they are just that - speculations. These are mentioned in the text. But we know nothing about him. That said, keep in mind Portuguese spellings were not standardized yet. Walrasiad (talk) 04:50, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
