Newspaper Information[edit]

I have added information on his play sourced from article in the "Wellington Journal and Shrewsbury News" published after his death, much of whose content comes from interview with surviving Wellington (town and club) friend Jack Churm. He does not mention Hampton playing for Shifnal Juniors but recalled he started his football career with Lilleshall Iron Works. It would be helpful if a citation could be given for his playing for the Shifnal team. There are a few questionable details which may have been distorted by memory - Churm stated Hampton joined Wellington in 1903-04 season, that in the match with Sheffield Wednesday he witnessed Hampton score "six of them [goals]" out of an 11-0 (sic) win, that he left Aston Villa for Birmingham in 1921 but "only stayed one (sic) season".Cloptonson (talk) 18:59, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the additional input. Taking your questions in order:
the Aston Villa Player Database, cited as a general reference, confirms Lilleshall Ironworks as an early club (before Shifnal). Most sources have him joining Wellington from Shifnal, e.g. the Joyce and Matthews books cited in the article, englandfc.com;
he did indeed rejoin Wellington in the 1903–04 season, but not until January 1924, again per Matthews, so the start year for his second Wellington spell in the infobox is correct;
the win was definitely 10–0 and Hampton scored five, see e.g. Aston Villa official site;
he left AVFC for Birmingham in February 1920, made his debut on 14 Feb, and played his last match for them on the last day of the 1921–22 season (i.e. he was there for the last few months of the 1919–20 season and two full seasons thereafter), per Matthews book.
