Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto AlegrenseGrêmio – Grêmio qualifies for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:COMMONNAME. A search for Grêmio shows relevancy to the top flight club. There are other clubs in Brazil known as Grêmio but it is apparent that the primary topic applies to the top flight Grêmio. MicroX (talk) 07:26, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Oppose - not PRIMARYTOPIC, and we do not use COMMONNAME for football clubs, the debacle that was the Inter Milan RM aside. GiantSnowman 09:54, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - even though the football club might have more pageviews than the neighborhood, I believe the article titles is more precise when it shows that the football club is a football club. The football club from Arsenal also got more pageviews than the neighborhood, and I think it would be a bad precedent to start moving places to titles with disambiguation to have the football clubs at their most common name. Mentoz86 (talk) 03:27, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Mentoz86 said exactly what I had planned to. Number 57 13:39, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - The term is too generic to refer specifically to the football club. – PeeJay 15:44, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto AlegrenseGrêmio FBPA – I am nominating this move for several reasons. Firstly, it's hard to argue WP:COMMONNAME for "Grêmio FBPA" because the club is almost always referred to as just "Grêmio", so it's not like I can find many examples of the FBPA being included in online sources. A previous move to just "Grêmio" was rejected. But in general, it's more common to see "Grêmio FBPA" than "Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense". Proof of this is that the club refers to itself as "Grêmio FBPA" on its own Twitter page here and Instagram page too. It's clear that this is the way the club is presenting itself, not with the full name. We usually abbreviate club full names, and this move would be in line with that standard. Lastly, the logo itself says "Grêmio FBPA", not the fully spelled out version. Paul Vaurie (talk) 20:01, 10 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom - the use of full names in Category:Football clubs in Brazil is not consistent with every other country, and there is no reason for this. GiantSnowman 15:07, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom, and there's probably lots of other similar moves that I'd support.--Ortizesp (talk) 04:01, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The names in the Brazilian football club category are unwieldy and there should be a mass action to put the prefixes and suffixes into initials like any other country's football clubs. Unknown Temptation (talk) 19:33, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
