Merger proposal[edit]

I think Gloucester Township, Ontario should be merged to this article. The Cake 2 (talk) 08:01, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Opposed: Gloucester township was a large area which extended over much of the east bank of the Rideau River. Many areas (Billings Bridge, etc) were distant from what in the 1980's became the town of Gloucester. Furthermore, Gloucester township existed for a much longer time than the town of Gloucester (20yrs). Denis (talk) 21:17, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In reply to the arguments presented by the following reviewer (184.145.42.19) in support of the merger, I would note first that the overlap does not make irrelevance: there are entries for historical townships, such as York, or Waterloo. Yet there is tremendous historical overlap between the townships they discuss, and the towns that grew from them. Second, because the article in its present form does not sufficiently distinguish the township and municipality in the eyes of the reviewer, does not make the subject any less relevant, nor does it diminish the need to maintain separate entries. Rather, it argues in favour of expanding the respective articles. Denis (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:43, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support: The articles themselves have too much overlap to ignore. It would be relatively easy to make maps showing the progression of Gloucester's boundaries as parts of it were hived off to Ottawa. There's no reason what Denis delineates couldn't be explained satisfactorily in the merged article, and frankly, much of it already is (e.g. list of reeves of the former township).184.145.42.19 (talk) 23:53, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Support: Content of both pages would be assisted by the merge and it would remove considerable duplication. The one reference on the township articles seems to cover the naming of the township, which would therefore also apply to the naming of the suburb. Klbrain (talk) 18:23, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
