Either broaden or delete article[edit]

The first paragraph of the lede defines "fineness" as Millesimal fineness. Since we already have an article on that topic, this article should be deleted if that is the primary focus.

If we don't want to delete the article, then I propose stating in the lede that fineness can be measured in any of several ways, then devoting more of the article to non-millesimal fineness measures, both contemporary and (presumaby non-Western) and historical. One alternative, in relation to twelve ounces troy, is already described. Now we just need more. Zyxwv99 (talk) 17:33, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the article is pretty lame. The real information is in millesimal fineness.
I think the article millesimal fineness should be merged into this one.

Merged[edit]

I have merged the articles Millesimal fineness and Carat (purity) with this one with redirects from both articles. I included all content from all articles so there may be some duplicate content. Martin Hogbin (talk) 09:33, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

there is no current article titled Carat (purity), and the links are redirected to the Fineness article. Someone please correct this. -Polytope4d (talk) 11:21, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please wait till i try to correct the links. Links on a page must not reload the same page again. -Polytope4d (talk) 11:32, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing to correct; the pages were merged by consensus. Martin Hogbin (talk) 13:07, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

875 fineness for Russian silver[edit]

Before switch to 900 in 1886 (to match LMU or French franc) Russian silver 25 kopek, 50 kopek and 1 ruble were in 83 1/3 zolotnik fineness. Which makes their fineness at 868 and not at 875. Catherine The Great silver coins were at 750 fineness. 78.56.84.144 (talk) 11:58, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
