Behavioral Ecology class[edit]

This article was the subject of an educational assignment in Fall 2013. Further details were available on the "Education Program:Washington University in St. Louis/Behavioral Ecology (Fall 2013)" page, which is now unavailable on the wiki.

I am a student at Washington University in St. Louis working on the behavior of Euphydryas editha, specifically focusing on its mating system. I will add more information throughout the semester. Wmhua (talk) 22:35, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The current article has good information, but it is very specific. I added a Description, Distribution, and Host Plants headings in order to increase the scope of the article. More general information should be added to make the article a more complete entry. Also I am interested in seeing the origin for its name along with its relationship with humans as far as being endangered. Maximilianzhang (talk) 23:24, 31 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great job on the addition! II added some wikilinks and fixed some grammatical mistakes. I substituted the scientific name with the common name all over the article. Overall I thought the article was well written. However, the language was too specialized for Wikipedia. This article has a lot of information on mating behavior, but not much else. It may be helpful to add information on feeding behaviors, morphology at different stages, and elaborating on some of the headings added by the other peer reviewer. I fixed one or two grammatical errors, and moved reference link 12 out of the heading and into the section. I would also like to see the origin of the name, especially considering the common names of the subspecies are all variations of the species name. Suggestions to get to good article:
- More pictures more pictures! Possibly of eggs
- to the taxobox, add the IUCN redlist conservation status (especially since you talk about it later in the article)
- add a map of the range
- there are many more places you can add links
- clean up the language in the "Impact on humans" section, it's not quite science-y enough
- Distribution and Habitat sections are short enough that they can be lumped into one Distribution and habitat section

Nice job of making your article much more comprehensive! Some suggestions to get your article to/closer to good article status: I would suggest putting in a lead. It should summarize information in your article (meaning, no new information) and cover the major points. Here is the link for more information about the lead: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lead_section. I think your article could use more pictures as well. I think the "Description" section could be titled "Morphology", and could have subheadings with the larvae, pupae, and adult morphology sections. Finally, I think adding a section on taxonomy could be very informative.
