Crowns[edit]

Recent edit on variation on crowns reads: "The crown varies based on the sex of the current monarch; for example Queen's crown and King's crown." Not sure about this. As far as I am aware the same crown was used for Queen Victoria and Edward VII before the three subsequent kings used the Imperial Crown of India. The crown used for the present Queen is St Edward's Crown originally made for Charles II. I have therefore changed it but any corrections with references welcome Dainamo 13:34, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More on Empire period needed[edit]

More on Empire period needed The Arab Legion (1920s-1956) had this rank, and when I looked it up here, there was hardly anything specific that can be directly applied there. I have started a discussion on the general topic here. Arminden (talk) 08:26, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Colonel of the regiment[edit]

I found my way to this article when I wanted to know exactly what "colonel of the regiment" meant. My interest is in the Napoleonic period and I knew that it was an appointment outside the rank progression and that it could be profitable. On reading a little, I concluded this article wasn't helpful and began looking outside Wikipedia. The best source was about the modern Indian army. Nevertheless, on reading more carefully I discovered this article did in fact have some information about the role of COR.

I propose to create a new article "Colonel of the Regiment" about the appointment over the last three or more centuries. It would include:

The sinecure period and the modern ceremonial role in the British Army, the Indian Army, and probably other Commonwealth armies. It might include particularly notable historical appointments and discussion of changes in the role over the time it has existed.

I suspect there is enough material for a separate article. I can add it to my TO DO list but it is a very long list and I don't have any direct military background. So I would be happy to hand this off to someone else. Here is the best source I found. However, it only covers the modern Indian army. https://www.ssbcrack.com/2019/09/general-bipin-rawat-wearing-a-colonels-rank.html
