Budgetary considerations[edit]

I've amended the paragraph about why the ALSEPs were shut down. It wasn't just about money. Jonathan Silverlight 01:57, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that the power considerations are correct. I've been told by people involved with the experiment that it could have continued for several years. After it was turned off, they tried reactivating it 10 years later but were unsuccessful. Lunokhod 09:52, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ode to ALSEP[edit]

Is this really the place to be posting poetry? I vote to cut it. Lunokhod 18:43, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lunar laser ranging[edit]

Is the LLR experiment considered to be part of ALSEP? Its not powered by the central station, but it was emplaced in the vicinity. Lunokhod 10:42, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CCIG/CCGE[edit]

These two instruments are identical. Later text refers to the Cold Cathode Ion Gauge (or Gage), but it was originally known as and called the "Cold Cathode Gage (Lunar Atmosphere Detector)" in the Apollo 12 Preliminary Science Report (PSR), Chapter 7, Page 93, "Cold-Cathode-Gage Experiment (Lunar Atmosphere Detector)" in the Apollo 14 PSR, Chapter 9, Page 185, and "Cold Cathode Gage (Lunar-Atmosphere Detector)" in the Apollo 15 PSR, Chapter 13, Page 13-1. The instrument flown aboard Apollo 13 was identical to these other three, but is called the "Cold Cathode Ion Gauge" or CCIG on this Wikipedia page. The comment that this was the only time the CCIG was ever flown is incorrect, as it is identical to the CCGE flown and successfully deployed during these other missions. This gives the reader the incorrect impression that this instrument was lost forever and never flown again when, in fact, it was successfully flown and deployed during Apollos 12, 14, and 15. It may seem to be a small point, but this oversight needs to be corrected. 24.27.112.6 (talk) 20:16, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
