Number of NCAA Championships[edit]

Kansas has won five NCAA championships, not three. Unless the wording is changed to specify NCAA Tournament championships, which totals three, the correct number is five. 75.61.11.254 (talk) 18:02, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence already specifies NCAA, so 3 should be the number listed. "The team won the 2007-2008 NCAA Division I men's basketball championship, the third in the school's history." The 1922 and 1923 Helms titles are not NCAA affiliated championships, nor are they recognized by the NCAA. Given the current wording of the sentence, 3 is the correct number to list Ryan2845 (talk) 18:41, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That is incorrect. The 1922 and 1923 Helms championships are in fact recognized by the NCAA. The Helms_Athletic_Foundation page itself states that Helms Championships are regarded by teams and the NCAA as national championships. It is accurate to say Kansas has won five NCAA national championships, with three of those coming via the NCAA Tournament - the KU media guide says the same. I will capitulate by keeping the number of championships at three and specifying the link as Tournament championships and not total NCAA championships. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.11.254 (talk) 18:59, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Then the helms page is incorrect. See for yourself http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/champs_listing1.html It's a little out of date in that it only lists Kansas with 2 titles, but if the NCAA counted the Helms titles it would list 4. I would agree that it is accurate to say kansas has won 5 "national championships" but not 5 "NCAA championships" Ryan2845 (talk) 19:06, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
