Mill Creek is an unincorporated community in Washington County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 40 in 2000. It is located within the Greater Houston metropolitan area.
History[edit]
By 1930, when it had 75 residents, the primarily black settlement had grown to become the ninth-largest population center in Washington County. Contrary to many other municipalities in Washington County, it saw its highest growth throughout the 20th century. From 1930 until 1950, when the estimated population fell to forty, Mill Creek's population remained constant. Even though Brenham's proximity and better transportation caused business activity to drop by 1970, Mill Creek was still a major supply hub for the area in 1988. The community has primarily White residents as a result of new weekend and year-round residents moving in from Brenham and Houston. A beautiful new residential portion was the outcome of extensive housing development. Mill Creek is close to Mount Pilgrim Church. The population remained at 40 in 2000.[2]
Geography[edit]
Mill Creek is located on Farm to Market Road 28 on the Southern Pacific Railroad, 3/4 of a mile from Lake Lange and 5.5 mi (8.9 km) from Brenham in southwestern Washington County.[2]
Education[edit]
Today, the community is served by the Brenham Independent School District.
