Summary

Description
English: Nineteenth Century Bermudian working sloops (not to be confused with the ocean-going Bermuda sloop) racing. Boats of this kind, fitted with the Bermuda rig, were used for a variety of roles in local waters of the archipelago of Bermuda, including passenger transport, hauling cargoes, and fishing. With the advent of yacht racing (introduced by ex-public schoolboys serving as officers at the Royal Naval Dockyard and in the Bermuda Garrison, along with sports such as football, rugby, and tennis), many were rented, with their crews, on weekends by Royal Navy and British Army officers for use in competition. Before long, affluent racers were having boats built for them, specifically for racing.
