Description
Deutsch: Südostansicht des nie in Betrieb genommenen Kernkraftwerks in der niederösterreichische Marktgemeinde Zwentendorf an der Donau.
Der Spatenstich für das Atomkraftwerk mit dem rd. 110 m hohen Schornstein erfolgte am 4. April 1972 und war das erste von mehreren geplanten. Nach vier Jahren fand die Fertigstellung des Siedewasserreaktors mit einer Leistung von rd. 750 Megawatt (elektr. Energie für rd. 1,8 Mio. Haushalte) statt. Bei einer Volksabstimmung am 5. Nov. 1978 - die 1. Volksabstimmung in der 2. Republik - entschied das Wahlvolk mit 50,47%, dass der Atommeiler nicht in Betrieb genommen werden darf. Bis zur „stillen Liquidierung“ im März 1985 waren Kosten von etwa 14 Milliarden Schilling (1 Mrd. Euro) angefallen.
