Summary

Description
English: Staged a staged specimen of Paragus haemorrhous Syrphidae The specimen is transfixed with a very fine micro pin called a minuten slightly diagonally so as not to destroy the same feature on both sides.

The ’stage’ is a thin strip of plastazote ( a high density foam) supported by a size 3 international or ‘continental-sized’ entomological pin called the ’stage-pin’at 90-degrees. The micro pin is pushed firmly into the foam stage.

The stage is positioned not too close to the top of the pin where fingers would damage it. Below are first the data label which reads Co. Clare, Burren, Ballyvaughan, M2207 (map grid reference) 30.v.1992 (date on which the insect was collected), J.P. O'Connor (collector) and the determination label which reads Paragus haemorrhous det. P.J. Chandler

Staging protects small/medium specimens while displaying as many features as possible. The stage-pin is strong and easy to hold or manipulate when moving the specimen and the stage absorbs vibrations.
