This media file is in the public domain in the United States. This applies to U.S. works where the copyright has expired, often because its first publication occurred prior to January 1, 1929, and if not then due to lack of notice or renewal. See this page for further explanation.

United States
This image might not be in the public domain outside of the United States; this especially applies in the countries and areas that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works, such as Canada, Mainland China (not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany, Mexico, and Switzerland. The creator and year of publication are essential information and must be provided. See Wikipedia:Public domain and Wikipedia:Copyrights for more details.

This image appeared in Auburn Magazine, vol. 1, no. 1, 1922, published by the Auburn Automobile Company, Auburn, Indiana. Ralph Bard was a member of the company's board of directors at that time and later became Assistant Secretary of the Navy (1941-1944) and Under Secretary of the Navy (1944-1945). The Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum, Auburn, Indiana, now claims ownership, but the pre-1923 publication of the image in the United States probably overrides that insofar as use on the English-language Wikipedia is concerned. I purchased a digitalized copy of the image from the museum on October 4, 2004, and have specific permission to use it on Wikipedia. The image also appeared in The Princeton Alumni Weekly, vol.XXVII, No. 23, March 18, 1927 at p. 695, col. 1.
