Italiano: STATUA IKENGA - Figura antropozomorfa costituita da corpo cilindrico densamente inciso, poggiante su quanttro piccoli supporti obliqui. Testa a cresta con lunghe corna laterali. Assente la rappresentazione degli arti superiori,

Gli Ikenga sono altari personali che mediano il rapporto fra il ""guerriero"" e la propria divinità pesonale (chi); sono oggetto di offerte sacrificali accompagnate da richieste. In un contesto sociale fortemente competitivo e individualista come quello igbo, gli ikenga assicurano al suo proprietario la forza per poter avere successo nelle sue imprese. Si tratta solitamente di figure umane in posizione seduta che impugnano un coltello e talvolta, nell'altra mano, la testa del nemico ucciso. Al di sopra della testa si levano lunghe corna che possono avere forma diversa ma che vengono sempre identificate con quelle dell'ariete. La complessità della sovrastruttura (in cui possono anche comparire animali a figura intera) dipende dallo status sociale della persona.

Ikenga più piccoli e più semplici come quello qui in oggetto sono invece usati dagli indovini nelle pratiche divinatorie.
