Description

Silver Antoninianus coin issued by the Roman emperor Philip the Arab to commemorate his victory over the Dacian Carpi in AD 247. Obverse: Head of Philip wearing diadem, with legend: IMP(erator) PHILIPPVS AVG(ustus); Reverse: Figure of winged goddess Victory bearing palm and laurel-wreath, with legend: VICTORIA CARPICA. Mint: Rome. Date: undated, but must have been issued in period 247-9[1] Philippus Arabus. 244-249 AD.

AR Antoninianus (23mm, 4.35 gm).

VICTORIA CARPICA, Victory advancing right, holding palm and wreath. RIC IV 66; RSC 238. VF, minor porosity. Rare.
