Selon les informations affichées dans un local de la synagogue, c'est parce qu'il existait des relations commerciales entre la Judée et le Kerala qu'un groupe de juifs a été accueilli à Cochin par le raja de l'époque. Par la suite, ils ont été rejoints par d'autres communautés.
