Object history
Deutsch: Die Ortsherrschaft hatte seit mindestens 1177 das Kloster Maulbronn inne. Auch nachdem das Kloster 1504 unter württembergische Schirmherrschaft gekommen war und später aufgelöst wurde, blieb Ötisheim bis 1806 beim Klosteramt Maulbronn. Das Wappenbild ist bereits in dem 1514 gestochenen ersten Fleckensiegel anzutreffen (Abdruck von 1552). Auch die Tingierung scheint damals schon festzustehen. Der Abtsstab weist auf die klösterliche Grundherrschaft hin, während die Eidechse (mundartlich „Aitsa") wohl den Ortsnamen volksetymologisch umsetzt. In einem Gerichtssiegel von 1529 und den späteren Siegeln erscheint nur die Eidechse im Wappenschild, der vom späten 19. Jahrhundert bis in die Dreißiger Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts hinein monströserweise einem doppelköpfigen Reichsadler als Herzschild aufgelegt ist. Um 1950 gestaltete man das Wappen nach dem ältesten Siegelbild, die Flaggenfarben wurden am 28. September 1950 genehmigt.
