Bellville was originally named Twelve Mile due to the fact that it was situated twelve miles from the Castle of Good Hope. The twelfth mile demarcated on the milestone is actually the junction of Mike Pienaar Boulevard and Voortrekker Road, Bellville, on the site of the Hardekraaltjie Municipal Caravan Park, some 1.5km west of the present site.
