Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences, also known simply as Shoolini University, is a private research university located near Kasauli in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh, 173229, India. It is located 73 km (45 mi) from Chandigarh and 67 km (42 mi) from Shimla.

History[edit]

Shoolini University was established by an Act of the Government of Himachal Pradesh in 2009, and it is recognised by the University Grants Commission (F No. 8-1/2010(CCP)-1/PU), dated 7.2.2011.[1]

Academics[edit]

Shoolini University is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC).[2] It has been recognized by Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) as a functional Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. Shoolini University offers courses in Mathematics, Biotechnology, Management Sciences, Liberal Arts, Engineering, Agriculture, Food Technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Law and Yoga.[3]

Accreditation[edit]

Shoolini University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).[4] The University also has accreditation from the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).[5] In 2016, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council accredited the university as B++.[6]

1. Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences secured the title of the No.1 Private University in India as per the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. Further, the university has also claimed the top position in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2024. Nationwide, Shoolini University stands at the 20th position overall and is ranked within the 771-780 band globally.[10]

2. Shoolini University achieved the 41st rank in Pharmacy and the 73rd rank in the Best University category (Highest in Himachal Pradesh) in NIRF Rankings.[11]

Activities[edit]

SPRINT[edit]

The University runs a program called SPRINT (Skill Programming Through Rapid and Intensive Training) which is a specialized program mandatory for all university students, with the aim of preparing them for interviews and job placements.[12] In 2017, the University completed its 100th SPRINT.[13] In June 2020, Shoolini University was shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Asia Awards 2020 for the category “ Outstanding Student Support” for its SPRINT Programme.[14]

Guru Series of Lectures[edit]

Named after the Paramahansa Yogananda, the university has initiated a lecture series under the banner of 'Guru Series of Lectures'. Luminaries from various fields are called to the institution to address the students and faculty on topics of their interest. Some of the speakers who have spoken under this lecture series include Nobel Laureate Robert Huber,[15] India's first woman IPS Officer Kiran Bedi,[16] Kamal Davar,[17] Yuvraj Singh,[18] Vivek Mohan.[19] and veteran actor Anupam Kher.[20]
